Relax you Maine Road fans, Manchester City have finally found themselves another potentially great goalkeeper.
Andy Dibble could well follow in the legendary footsteps of Swift, Trautmann and Corrigan.
His commanding penalty area authority and polished handling of the ball is easy to appreciate. And at £240,000, a fee set by the Football League independent tribunal, it could prove one of the bargains of the season.
Dibble emerged untroubled throughout City’s pre-season Scandanavian jaunt when they won all five games, clocking up 22 goals along the way.
However, he had his stiffest test so far at Carlisle last night where City won 4-1.
Dibble produced a brilliant save as he arched himself to turn a wicked 30 yarder from Richard Sendall over the bar.
Said team manager Mel Machin: “That was certainly some save. But then I have always known Andy was top class material. He is authoritative in his area and times his runs for clearances to perfection…
