Manchester City lost ground in the promotion race as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat against Brighton at the Goldstone Ground.
City youngster Ian Brightwell tragically put through his own goal in the 78th minute with the Blues looking set to collect a point.
Earlier, there had been controversy when Brighton scored their first goal with a twice taken penalty from Alan Curbishley.
City ‘keeper Paul Cooper saved the first attempt but referee John Deakin ordered a retake.
The Blues battled back for a 59th minute equaliser from Trevor Morley before Brightwell’s boob put Brighton back in front.
