GOALS FOR DAVID OLDFIELD AND DAVID WHITE
The Blues started firm favourites after two league games which saw them demolish United in the Manchester derby and follow up with a 3-1 drubbing of Luton. The goal trail continued as David White calmed City’s nerves with an opening blast after nine minutes to level the tie. But again unpredictable City threatened to undo themselves when May equalised for Brentford to put the Londoners back in front 3-2 overall, Half-time came with City desperately in need of a pep-talk. Whatever was said worked dramatically with the Blues blasting Brentford out of the tie with three goals in five minutes early in the second half.
Trevor Morley grabbed his in two minutes and David Oldfield, hero of the first leg, got the fourth with the second half just minutes old. Brentford were broken by the onslaught and City’s ticket to the third round was secured.
