FIRST HALF GOALS FROM CLIVE WILSON AND TONY CUNNINGHAM
City played fourth Division Blackpool in a possible ‘banana skin’ 2nd round tie at Maine Road, and within a minute it looked like the Tangerines might just inflict the upset of the round as Windridge lobbed Alex Williams to put Blackpool 1-0 up.
Less than 10 minutes later Greenall sensationally headed the minnows into a two goal lead, however City showed there superiority and were level by half-time courtesy of a Clive Wilson close range effort from a Geoff Lomax cross and a header from Tony Cunningham from a cross from Paul Power.
The second half saw City in total control and with just over a quarter of an hour to go Mick McCarthy converted a David Phillips free-kick and with eight minutes left Phillips was again the provider with a free-kick from which Tony Cunningham claimed his second goal, to leave The Blues in the driving seat for the 2nd leg.
SECOND HALF GOALS FROM MICK MCCARTHY AND TONY CUNNINGHAM ENSURE CITY TAKE A TWO GOAL LEAD INTO THE 2ND LEG
