City slipped to only their fifth defeat in 22 games since John Bond took over as manager.
High flying Villa rocked the Blues with a great goal from Gary Shaw after only two minutes, and City were left to fight an uphill battle.
But Bond’s boys made a real fight of it, with Alan Evans twice clearing off the goalline as City threw everything into attack.
But City could not find the final opening that would have rewarded them with the point they deserved…
