City were always struggling to break down Arsenal’s solid defence at Maine Road, particularly after losing Trevor Francis.
TShe England star was struggling from the fifth minute when he collided with Arsenal’sBrian Talbot. Francis received treatment in the 10th minute, and went off 19 minutes later to be replaced by substitute Gary Jackson.
Arsenal had City at full stretch at times as 18 year old debutant Jaul Gorman hit the post for Arsenal in the first half, and Joe Corrigan was forced to pull off a fine save from Kenny Sansom.
