from UWE ROSLER, BREAKING DOWN WALLS
One thing I’ve done at a number of clubs is start the season off on a bad note, and I was furious at myself for it happening in the opening game of the new campaign with City. Now officially a City player, things couldn’t have begun much worse as my two yellow cards resulted in a sending off away to Arsenal. My language was clearly improving as the second caution was for swearing at the referee, maybe I’d have got away with it if I hadn’t picked up some of the local Moss Side lingo so quickly.
We lost 3-0 and I thought ‘here we go again.’ I’d stepped over the line, trying too hard and ended up with an early bath.
I thought I would be banned for six weeks as a result, just as I had been in Germany several times before. It was unthinkable that I would be out for two months and it could ruin my hopes of really establishing myself in England.
Thankfully that’s not how the Premiership worked and the ban, just one match, wouldn’t come into effect for another couple of games. It was a relief because I’d been determined to start the season with a real impact and it meant I was still available for the upcoming home games against West Ham United and Everton.
