Dennis Tueart came through his first full match since the serious operation he underwent last December to repair a snapped achilles tendon, but the pleasure of the come-back was spoiled by a 35th minute own goal which gave victory to the Greek hosts.
Tueart was out of luck as he raced back to cover while Dintzikos jinked past tackles from Tommy Caton and Bobby McDonald. Attempting to cut out the resultant cross Tueart sent the ball high into the roof of City’s net.
Graham Baker, newly signed from Southampton, made his bow in Blue to give the midfield a better balance. But City`s finishing was again below par and onus fell on the defence and particularly Joe Corrigan, pulled off more top—class saves. Kevin Bond was injured late in the first half.
When City did net in the 24th minute, capping off a smart four—man move, the referee, judged very harshly that Cross was stood offside. Cross nearly made amends but his- second half header was foiled. Kevin Reeves missed the match due to injury.
